My name is Jesse Kleintop, I grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania
riding western pleasure horses. During one summer, when I was 16, Rob Spencer, who I showed horses with, offered me a
job to help him shoe horses. I spent the entire summer working with him, meeting people, and learning the trade. I realized
that horseshoeing could be the job for me. I really enjoyed being able to help horses be able to feel and move their best
and to become sound and happy. I apprenticed for Rob all though high school, and at the end I went to the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School.
After graduation, I returned to Pennsylvania to work for Rob Spencer and Kurt Diangeles to continue improving my
skills. Rob brought me to Kentucky in 2001, and I worked with him, Doctor Rick Redden, and Eric Parsons. In
Kentucky, I was able to focus on sport horses, and I began to grow my own business. I was able to combine the
knowledge of Dr. Rick Redden, Rob Spencer, and Eric Parsons, as well as my own experience to be able to shoe each
individual horse in the way which is most beneficial to that horse. I am currently specializing in prix st. george
level dressage horses, advanced level eventers, and level 5 jumpers.
I am now living
on a 20 acre farm, with my girlfriend Sarah Shade, a 3 day event rider, located 10 minutes from Hagyard equine hospital.
Because of her, I am generally at most of the events, with Duncan Peters, one of the top sport horse vets in the
country. Duncan and I work together both at people’s farms and at horse shows, all of the way up to the
final jog. This relationship, between veterinarian and farrier, helps us to keep these horses as happy
and sound as possible, so they are able to perform their best for their owners and riders.
